How can you open xml, xsd, and dtd files on a Mac?

I am trying to upload xsd, xml, and dtd files onto my Mac, but I can’t open them. I can’t save a TextEdit file as an xsd, xml, or dtd file either, because when I add the corresponding extension, I can’t open the file later (just like I can’t open the uploaded files). I don’t have any problems with html files. Could you guys help me out?

xsd, xml, and dtd files are regular text file. Although they may have uncommon extension, causing the file-type detection to fail. To open them, just do the open command from the TextEdit program instead of double clicking the file.

Alternatively, you can also setup so that these files will be recognized as text file.

TextEdit can be annoying and weird like that sometimes. I think you should start with the text edit alternatives. There is Text Wrangler and xPad that I can think of off hand. There is likely some others too but none are coming to mind right now.

Otherwise you might need a professional grade editor, like an NVU or Dreamweaver I guess. I haven’t tried to edit those kinds of files with DW though, so not sure if even that supports it.

Oh and I discovered JEdit and TextMate listed on some forum by a few people. So maybe google those too.
