Publishing documents from XML data?

My company produces high quantities of fairly (but not totally )standardised reports each quarter. Currently they are set up in Word and look awful. We want to transfer data via XML to InDesign to style the reports far better but the IT dept think its flakey because any extra coding is via Java.

Whats a good alternative?

Have you been reading up on the Open Document Format or even Microsoft’s Open Office XML? If you can save the documents into one of those formats, you may be able to use a third party application to handle schema mapping to automate moving data between the documents and InDesign.

Standardize the reports to begin with. Not knowing any of the details I can’t give you any further advice, but there are many ways of standardizing reports. If IT doesn’t want to do it your way ask them to come up with a method they’re happy with.

  6. Nice post. I learn one thing more difficult on completely different blogs everyday. It would always be stimulating to read content from other writers and follow a bit something from their store. I’d want to use some with the content on my blog whether you don’t mind. Natually I’ll provide you with a link in your net blog. Thanks for sharing.
