Converting xml files to odt, doc, or anything compatible..?

In non-programmer; what are the advantages in saving in xml (.docx) vs. binary (.doc) file format?
I hope to understand the rational behind the change in file formats in Microsoft Office 2007. Thank you in advance.

How do I tell my website to open an XML file based on user-submitted data?
Okay, I’m using Microsoft FrontPage 2003, and I’m trying to set up a weather section on my website using XML feeds from The Weather Channel. My problem is that my hosting company doesn’t support PHP or ASP – so how do I make it so that a user can submit his/her zip code, have that information translated into an XML URL, then have my weather page open that URL to post the data?
I’m using ASP.NET (.aspx) webpages, just for reference. Thanks SO MUCH in advance for any answers provided!
I’m using Microsoft Office Live, which is in beta testing, and that is why ASP and PHP are not yet available, although they will be in the near future. They give me free webspace, FrontPage extensions, and a free domain name, all without ads – that’s why I’m not switching.
Mark M – There is a problem with my account, and ASP should be working soon. But, is there any way you could give me an example of a JavaScript code that work with the API and I’ll do some tweaks on it – thanks in advance.

Anyone have tips for me on setting up a free XML Publishing System on my company’s intranet?
I want to be able to give my content authors a word-processer like interface to create and edit XML files, which are then transformed by the XSL I build for them and published into HTML files.
The two key features being
(1) They don’t have to see the tags and code while editing content; and
(2) The content they edit can be transformed and saved into an HTML file.
I know there are some tools out there (like Altova) which can do this but I want to hopefully find something free. We have Microsoft product (IIS and Office) in house so those tools would work for us too, if possible.
I’m pretty new to the whole XML publishing thing so thanks for any suggestions!
PS. A true bonus would be the ability to publish the content into an email… but we can get there with IE’s "Send Page by Email" function once it’s in HTML format too.
a security update keeps popping up Microsoft XML Core Services 4.0 Service Pack 2 Security Update for (KB93618
I have service pack 3, why would I need to download updates for service pack 2? I don’t know much but I read that someone can hack my notebook real easy if I don’t take care of Microsoft XML Core the right way.
Is there a program that converts text to XML? Or something that helps writing XML?
I was just wondering if there is a program that someone could use (who doesn’t know a lot about programming XML) to help write XML? I know that Microsoft Office 2003 has a feature that allows you to save to XML, but so much of the code is unnecessary and confusing… This program would be used for people who don’t have the time to learn XML and would be used to just type notes and have them converted to XML.
Thanks in advance.
How to format xml with the tags for the sake of documentation?
I would be creating some documentation with xmls samples.
