How do you implement an RSS feed if the web server does not accept .rss or .xml files?

I found a feed creator, made a feed, went to publish it but the site does not accept .rss or .xml files. If saved as an HTML, will RSS readers read it? I’m a total noob to RSS, so forgive me if I ask silly questions. What files types do you support? jpg|jpeg|gif|png|bmp|ico|html|htm|php|mid|css|js|txt Clear enough?
